Greece to free half its prison population

Miami News.Net
Thursday 20th November, 2008

The Greek Justice Ministry has announced plans to free around half of the country's 12,000 inmates within the next few months.

Greek prisons are severely overcrowded, with room for 7,500 inmates.

Thousands of prisoners have been on hunger strike since the beginning of the month in protest against overcrowding.

The Greek government is also planning to reform its strict drug laws, so that fewer people will be sent to prison.

The proposals must first be approved by parliament.

Liberize all drugs, and most of your problems will be solved.

It is very simple, give free drugs to addicts so that they will not do any harm, and at the same time it will take away the profits to criminals who thrive on the drug trade.

But since the criminal syndicate is a very big organization in which many prestigious characters and politicians are involved, surely this liberazation of the drug trade will remain a dream to those who believe in this fallacy,

This is the only cure to stop many crimes due to drugs, and just think how many innocent lives can be spared, especially law enforcement agents who lose their lives trying to stop the drug traffic, and innocemnt victims who fall under the drug users, who would kill so that they can satisfy their habit.

Well, all of this would terminate, and all a drug user would have to do is go to any hospital or medical center and get his drug dose, and I believe in time this will become a practical reality to save innocent lives, and at the same time to curtail drug crimes.
