Sweden's Madelene Sagstrom overcame a slow start Sunday and held on to shoot 2-under-par 70 and win her first LPGA title by one stroke at the Gainbridge LPGA at Boca Raton, Fla.

Sagstrom's two-shot lead entering the final round was undone by bogeys at the second and fifth holes at Boca Rio Golf Club, but she carded four birdies and no bogeys the rest of the way to finish at 17-under-par 271 for the tournament.

"It doesn't matter how you start. If you just continue fighting, things can go your way," Sagstrom said. "And I just told myself, keep fighting, keep fighting. It will -- if it happens -- it will happen if it turns out. And it did."

Runner-up Nasa Hataoka of Japan bogeyed the final hole and shot a 3-under 69 on Sunday to finish at 16 under.

It was the second straight second-place finish for Hataoka, who lost to Gaby Lopez on the seventh playoff hole Monday at the season-opening Diamond Resorts Tournament of Champions at Lake Buena Vista, Fla.

Danielle Kang (69) was third at 15 under, followed by France's Celine Boutier (13 under) and South Korea's Sei Young Kim (11 under).

Sagstrom is the 12th player from Sweden to win on tour, and the first since Pernilla Lindberg won the 2018 ANA Inspiration.

In her fourth season on the LPGA Tour, the 27-year-old Sagstrom was making her 69th career start. The $300,000 first prize puts her over the $1 million mark for her career at $1,132,568.
