Atlanta Braves ace left-hander Max Fried exited Wednesday's start against the Miami Marlins after a rough first inning.

With none on and one out, Starling Marte bunted toward third. Fried planted his left foot, picked up the ball, spun and threw Marte out at first.

The 26-year-old Fried, however, promptly surrendered back-to-back homers to Jesus Aguilar and Brian Anderson, then nearly a third to Garrett Cooper, who doubled off the wall.

Fried escaped further damage by getting Lewis Brinson on a groundout, but saw his ERA elevate from 1.96 to 2.25.

But when the second inning began, Luke Jackson was on the mound for the Braves. Fried did not appear to be injured, raising the possibility the National League East-champion Braves are simply being cautious ahead of the playoffs.

Fried's perfect record (he entered the game 7-0) will remain intact, however, as the Braves scored three in the bottom of the first.
