Nebraska Legislature, DMV, and offices disrupted after system shutdown

OMAHA, Nebraska: A major computer outage shut down state government services in Nebraska for several hours this week.

The issue affected everything from driver's licensing offices to the state Legislature, even turning off the electronic board that shows lawmakers' votes.

The Office of the Chief Information Officer confirmed that the outage impacted all state connections, making most state websites—including Health and Human Services and Transportation—unavailable. The Legislature had to adjourn early without debating planned bills, though afternoon committee hearings continued.

State websites were back online before 1 p.m., but officials have not yet explained what caused the problem. Chief Information Officer spokesman Ezra Effrein said they are still investigating and do not know if it was a cyberattack.

Governor Jim Pillen's office, which was also affected, had no further details on the cause.
